Hope
By Lawrence Engels II
I open the door
And here we are
Face to face
My heart skips a beat
Afraid to hear
The words you say
It feels so different now
Because of me
And my misplay
I look into your eyes and get lost
I immediately look down, scared
I hear your voice and hope rises
I glance back up and prepare
My inner thoughts begin to fire
I recall my mistakes
There is constant fear
That we will forever be far apart
My mind snaps back to the present
And I can hear again
It's more than just flat explanations
My heartbeat quickens
I both see and hear a smile
What is this sensation?
Has enough time passed
So my nerves are not on edge?
Is this my desperation?
I look into your eyes and get lost
I immediately look down, scared
I hear your voice and hope rises
I glance back up and prepare
My inner thoughts begin to fire
I recall my mistakes
There is constant fear
That we will forever be far apart
I can relax a bit
I feel some connection again
Even if it is small
I walk by you
Ready to help
Ready to fall
I can actually smile
We are talking
We have crossed over this wall
Not only does this happen once
It happens a second and third time
No matter what anyone else has to say
I have had a good day
